Rep. Blake Farenthold: Statement on Libya

Statement on Libya

by Congressman Blake Farenthold on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 3:06pm

I oppose U.S. involvement in Libya, which is why I voted against H.J.Res.68 that would have authorized the use of force in Libya, and voted for H.R.2278 that would have limited funding that the Department of Defense could use for activities in support of the N.A.T.O mission in Libya.
Both H.J.Res.68 and H.R.2278 failed to pass the House of Representatives on Friday, June 24, 2011.  The Obama Administration has “kicked the rattlesnake,” and now the United States is in a position where it would be reckless to leave our N.A.T.O allies without our support.
I will continue to support measure to restrict U.S. taxpayer funds from being spent in Libya, but unfortunately the President has put our country in a precarious situation in Libya, and we do have a commitment to protect our allies and remove Gaddafi from power, while at the same time not putting our military men and women in harm’s way.
